geekyjessica:

I grew up in a small town in West Texas.  I often return and interact with the people of that area.  I have many friends and beloved family members who are conservative and religious. My dad is a moderate Republican. I totally get differing economic and foreign policies.  I disagree with the Republican views, but I understand the foundation of the party ideals in those areas.

Here’s where I draw the line.

Christian beliefs should NOT dictate our government’s decisions.  Freedom of religion in this country means that over the centuries we have encouraged a melting pot of religions, customs, races and ideologies.  The fact that there are politicians who legislate their beliefs is bad enough, but the fact that those beliefs limit or outright DENY the equal rights of women, people of color and the entire LGBT community is wrong and should not be tolerated.

I was raised by a Republican father.  He also voted for Obama twice (we all fainted) because he could see the radical extremism and outright lies the Republican party was using during the Bush administration to manipulate people.

FOX NEWS LIES.  That is an indisputable fact.  They twist the truth and they LIE.  You want to say that other news outlets promote a liberal agenda.  I will tell you that ALL news outlets sensationalize news in order to gain the maximum viewership.  BUT FOX NEWS LIES.

So when I post a quote that says “Conservatives proud traditions in this country they “fight” to protect, and what that basically means is that they think they can still be racist and homophobic if they do it carefully.”

and then you accuse me of painting Republicans with a broad brush, I say to YOU that you should look very hard at the people you have voted into office and ask yourself if they are trying to legislate their beliefs in order to force them upon a multi-ethnic, multi-religious populace.  Ask yourself if they truly promote equality for Men, Women, People of Color and LGBTs.

If YOU do not believe in equality, if YOU want your beliefs to become legislation in order to force everyone to live by your chosen path…then by all means.  Keep voting for these people.

If not, then don’t tell me I’m painting Republicans with a broad brush.  You are either making a choice, or being willfully ignorant.  If you make that choice, you have my respect and understanding.  I strongly disagree, but I respect you.

If you’re being willfully ignorant, then put down that pointy finger and start really thinking about who you are voting for and what they intend to do with the power you give them.

Quite succinctly put.

Favourite celebrity non-monogamous couple: Neil Gaiman and Amanda Palmer

“Our relationship is open, and the open-ness is grounded in total honesty with one another. We’re very communicative with each other and we share everything. I think that’s the way you gotta do it. I can’t speak for anyone but myself, and there are a million ways to love and be in a relationship,” Palmer said. “But fundamentally, I think if you’re going to have a really, truly loving partnership, you have to be completely transparent, communicating and sharing everything. Neil and I fall more and more in love with each other every day, and I think part of that is because we encourage each other to say more, share more, to peel ourselves open to each other in the middle of the night when the day is done and the real talking happens. It’s not always easy, the peeling sometimes hurts, but the deep love it fosters is clear to see.” -Amanda Palmer

Also, the hottest celebrity couple basically ever.

A very objective way to look at relationships in the 21st century. Good on them.

Men feel the pressures of society just as much as women. Through my internet searches I have come across nothing that encourages body positivity in men. This needs to change.

Please, tell me of the struggles this dude faces as a white male. I’m really interested in hearing about the alternate reality that he inhabits.

WHAT A DUMBASS POST
CRY HARDER WHITE BOY

Booohooooo who says all girls wanna look like barbie dipshit

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Are you guys honestly saying that just because he’s a man and white? Are you fucking kidding me? You all do realize what you’re technically saying right? You’re pretty much saying that that this guy has no right to be sad because there are people out there who have it worse. I thought that was one of the main things you never tell a person with depression, so why are any of you saying that here?
Seriously, what world do you guys live in? What if a white man abused as a child? What if they were told that they were not good enough by their family and and people around him? Do you think every white guy lives a life where everybody loves them, nobody thinks they’re ugly and they get everything they want by simply asking for it once? You have to be a complete fool to believe that.
Are you trying to tell me that a white person can’t be depressed because he is “privileged over everybody else”? Let me put it to you like this: Let’s say a white man loses his job, is insecure about his body (because maybe he’s not very tall or muscular, which is what society today tells a man he should look like), and has no friends. Now let’s say you have a successful black business woman who makes a lot of money, has a great social life, but also has depression. Which one of these two people has more right to be depressed? The answer: NEITHER!!!! Because depression is not always about how successful you are life or what you have. Depression is feeling that you’re not a good enough person no matter who you are and how hard you try.
All you that contributed to the above commentary should be ashamed of yourselves. There are people out there, include white boys, who hate themselves because of their looks. They will self harm just like anybody else with self hate issues, but none of you care. All you care about is their gender and skin color. I’d hate to see what any of you would say if ever met a cutter that happened to be a white guy. What would you say when if showed you his scars? Would you laugh in his face? What if he told you that he attempted suicide? Would you roll your eyes at him?
None of you are any better than those racist and sexist people you claim to hate so much. You don’t want equality. You want anybody that shares physical similarities with “the oppressor” to feel like shit. You want people who to be looked down upon because of the their race and gender; two things they have no control over. How is that any better than someone belittling a black/hispanic/asian/etc person because of a broad and untrue generalization?
I’ve come to realize this important fact: Tumblr isn’t the safe haven for logical people that so many people want to claim it is. It’s full immature, hypocritical , and ignorant people just like any other website. I don’t care if I lose followers because of this. This has to stop.

I am a white male who’s cut, attempted suicide, is diagnosed with depression, and who has a personality disorder (Borderline). I’m disgusted by my body, my feelings, and everything about me. Through five years of horrid depression and the past two years of recovery, I’ve managed to find a reason to live.
But how fucking DARE you say that because of my genitalia and skin colour I face no problems? I’m a white male, but I’m also gay. Oh, now I’m suddenly in your good books again. My being gay excuses my being a white male and makes my depression valid, doesn’t it? Suddenly, I face insurmountable social odds and inequalities, right?
Think before you speak, you racist, sexist, dipshits.

Bless this post- and fuck the people in the middle who actually buy into the idea that life is guaranteed to be easy simply because you’re white and male

Whose intervention ensured Star Trek saw the light of day?
Answer: Lucille Ball
Most people recognize and remember Lucille Ball as the lovable and silly star of one of America’s earliest and most loved sitcoms, I Love Lucy. What most people don’t know is that Lucille was a savvy business woman and that she and her husband Desi Arnaz had amassed a small fortune and owned their own studio, Desilu.
It was at Desilu that acclaimed Sci-Fi screenwriter and visionary Gene Roddenberry got his big break. Roddenberry pitched the Star Trek pilot to the studio as a sort of Western-inspired space adventure. While many within the studio balked at the idea, Lucille liked the idea and the first pilot was approved and filmed. The pilot was pitched to NBC and was promptly rejected on the grounds that it was too intellectual, not enough like the space-western they had been lead to believe it would be, and audiences wouldn’t relate to it. Lucille, a fan of Roddenberry’s work, pushed back against NBC and insisted they order a second pilot. Ordering a second pilot was a practice almost entirely unheard of and save for Lucille’s charisma and clout with the network it would never have happened.
Roddenberry shot the second pilot, NBC accepted it, and Star Trek premiered in 1966, thus beginning a new era in the Sci-Fi genre and laying the foundation for half a century of Star Trek fandom–an era that would have never come to pass without the intervention and insistence of Lucille Ball.
Bonus Trivia: After her divorce from Arnaz, Lucille bought out his share of their studio. As a result she became the first woman to both head and own a major studio. (*)

Now I love Lucy.

So few people know about this! Too few. Glad to see this turning up here. Also: it was through Lucille Ball’s influence that the concept of the rerun (previously unknown and thought to be worthless by studios to whom it was pitched) finally took hold. Desilu essentially pioneered the concept of syndication, and of the “syndication package” — the minimum number of episodes (initially 65, now sometimes more) necessary for a series to become commercially viable, via onward sales, for longer than its initial live run.
We have a lot to thank Lucy for besides that beautiful rubbery face.  :)

Knew I loved this lady for a reason!!
